As with all Scout Association groups, Discovery Sailing Project is suspending all face to face activities, which includes sailing, until further notice. This is a very sad and disappointing announcement to make – Discovery’s volunteer members have been working hard over the winter to get the boats ship-shape for another sailing season. We were looking forward to the spring sailing season, introducing many Scouts, Explorers and other young people to the delights of Sail Training, and seeing them grow and develop as a result.
It is clear that weekend voyages in April and May will not be going ahead, and I’ve emailed leaders who have organised these voyages.
Looking further ahead, the picture is unclear, but we will be monitoring the situation, and following the Scout Association’s guidance. We are keen to recommence Sail Training voyages as soon as possible, but the health of our young crews and volunteer Sea Staff, and that of the wider community, has to be our first priority.
